Tips and Tricks for a Successful Stroll to School

What better way to start your day than with some fresh air, especially during your morning commute? Before you are locked in a building all day, prepare to make the most of your trip with these tips for a safe and efficient walk to school:

Give yourself plenty of time.

When traveling to school by foot, the last thing you want to do is consequently turn your leisurely stroll into a sprint to catch the bell. Make sure to wake up with plenty of time to get ready, and work in a few extra minutes in case you have to take a detour along the way. Plus, if you arrive with time to spare, you will feel much more relaxed and ready to take on the day!

Stay seen by all.

Whether you have an early morning club meeting before class or extracurricular activities in the afternoon, the sun is not always out and about. Make sure other walkers, bikers, and drivers can see you by carrying a flashlight or wearing bright, reflective clothing. Staying visible ensures your safety while you travel, and helps keep you from getting lost in the dark.

Don’t be afraid to change it up.

Taking the same path every day can get a little boring. Mix up your route regularly to add some adventure to your walk and discover new sights. Safety bonus: a change in your commute means that no one is able to monitor and learn your routine.

Find a walking buddy.

If you have friends who live nearby, consider walking together. Having company can make the walk more enjoyable and create opportunities for socializing before the school day begins. Not to mention, it is safer to travel in a group or with a friend.

Study up on the way.

Do you have a big test coming up? This is a great time to listen to a recording of a class lecture, quiz yourself, or listen to any educational podcasts. In addition to making the most of your study time, your commute time will fly by, too!

We hope our tips help you have the best walk to and from school – and maybe spark a few new ideas of your own. Learn more about how to commute safely, and discover more walking tips by taking a look at our blog. You never know what you might find!
