The Most Beautiful Routes in Memphis to Bike or Walk to Work

Memphis is a wonderful city for walking and biking, with a growing network of bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly routes. While you will want to take the weather into account, you’ll find many days of the year to be perfect for enjoying the outdoors as you pedal or stroll your way to work (picking up the pace if you are running late, of course!). Exercise before work sets you up for a productive day, and time in nature is a delightful way to unwind on your way home.

Ready to give it a try? Here are just a few beautiful – and safe – routes for walking or biking to work in Memphis:

  • Shelby Farms Greenline: The Shelby Farms Greenline is a 10.65-mile paved, urban trail that runs from the heart of Midtown Memphis to the eastern edge of Shelby Farms Park, from Tillman Street at Walnut Grove Road in Midtown to B Street at Macon Road in Cordova. The trail is green and shady, well-lit, and separated from motor vehicle traffic, making it both a beautiful and a safe option for walking and biking.

  • Wolf River Greenway: The Wolf River Greenway is a corridor of protected green space along the Wolf River that includes a pathway for pedestrian and bicycle traffic, connecting Memphis neighborhoods and suburbs. A refreshing route for commuting by foot or bike, the trail is easy on the eyes, paved, and safely separated from traffic in many areas.

  • Overton Park: Overton Park is a 342-acre gem of a public park in Midtown that offers several trails and bike lanes. A green oasis in the heart of our city, the park is well-maintained and well-lit, perfect for commutes in the area.

  • Collierville Greenbelt System: If you live in the lovely small town of Collierville, this greenbelt system is designed to connect neighborhoods, parks, schools, and commercial areas by providing alternative transportation options with miles of trails and connectors – a truly beautiful way to start your day!

  • Broad Avenue Arts District: If you work near or in the Broad Avenue Arts District, you are in luck! The popular, up-and-coming, and lively area offers several bike lanes and designated pedestrian crossings. The area is very pedestrian-friendly, well-maintained, and offers a variety of places to stop for a coffee, dinner, or a drink after work.

We are sure these beautiful routes are just the tip of the iceberg. Do you have a favorite biking or walking commute? Share your ideas with us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram
